Deciduous fruits are of temperate origin though some varieties can be grown in the warmer tropics. The fruits are classified into two main groups: The pome (apples, pears, and quinces) and the stone (peaches, nectarines, plums and apricots). Research in these crops is being carried out at the Nyanga Experiment Station and at the Horticultural Research Centre (Marondera). The different fruit trees vary in their adaptability to local environmental conditions, appearance, time to maturity and taste.
HRI offers a variety of deciduous fruit tree planting materials.
